When Claire and Fraser first told their families and friends that they had their hearts set on a white wedding, snow wasn’t quite what their guests had in mind. But the realisation soon dawned on them when the ‘save the date’ invites revealed that the couple had indeed chosen to tie the knot in the midst of winter!
Sure enough, when the day of the wedding rolled around, much of Scotland woke to find several inches of snow covering the ground. While many of the guests had been apprehensive about the prospect of an outdoor winter ceremony, especially in the event of snow, they quickly came round to Claire and Fraser’s way of thinking. Everyone found the setting to be romantic and magical – not to mention unusual! With most brides and grooms favouring the warmer seasons, not many wedding photos feature pale grey skies, naked trees and blankets of snow in the background.
The couple certainly didn’t want their guests to freeze, though. So, they had organised for everything after the ceremony to take place inside a rustic barn, which they had decorated with Scandi-style props ahead of the celebrations. Three wreath-covered, extended oak dining tables took centre stage, with benches on either side. Fur throws had been draped across the seating areas, and garlands and fairy lights were strung from the beams, which made the space feel warm, cosy and inviting.
Hog Roast Crail was asked to cover the catering side of things, and our catering manager, Steve, and the team had a splendid time preparing our Southern Slow Roast Menu for the occasion, which offers something for everyone!
Sticky pork ribs, BBQ pork butt, Cajun-spiced whole roast chicken and grilled vegetable and halloumi kebabs were served as a buffet alongside Hog Roast Crail’s famous selection of side dishes. These consisted of crunchy coleslaw, mac and cheese, indulgent potato salad and mixed fries, which everyone hungrily devoured!
Hog Roast Crail’s piping hot and wholesome food was just what the guests needed after the chilly outdoor ceremony, and after one bite, they immediately started to feel relief from the cold. The bride and groom were over the moon with the service our crew provided, and they couldn’t thank Steve enough for making their day even more perfect.
