As November drew to a close, Hog Roast Plockton was thrilled to cap off the month by catering an unforgettable St Andrew’s Day soiree! Hosted by Bill, a seasoned entertainer famous for his annual celebrations, this year’s event was a fresh twist on tradition, designed to bring his growing family together in style.
With more young people in the mix this year, Bill wanted to update the usual haggis, neeps, and tatties spread. Inspired by a hog roast he enjoyed at a friend’s party, he knew it would be a show-stopping addition to the festivities. For a guest list of 100, a hog roast offered the perfect balance of practicality and indulgence—and Hog Roast Plockton was just the team to pull it off!
We arrived at Bill’s home in the early afternoon, setting up our roasting station in his spacious garden. The slow-cooked pork, sizzling on the spit, soon filled the air with sumptuous aromas, drawing curious glances from passersby. Meanwhile, Miriam and John worked their magic on an array of Scottish-inspired canapés. Guests were treated to smoked Scottish salmon, mini fish and chips served with tangy tartar sauce, and homemade sausages, all beautifully presented on bamboo platters.
When it was time to serve the main event, the hog roast lived up to every expectation. Succulent pork was paired with sage and onion stuffing, crispy crackling, applesauce, and gluten-free rolls. We ensured no guest felt left out by offering BBQ-pulled jackfruit buns for the vegetarians and vegans in attendance. A variety of seasonal salads and mixed vegetables completed the feast, providing something for every palate.
As the party got underway, guests filled their plates and gathered in the cosy outdoor gazebo, warmed by gas heaters and wrapped in blankets. Laughter, storytelling, and the clink of glasses filled the air, as Bill’s friends and family enjoyed a new take on St Andrew’s Day festivities.
Bill and his family were thrilled with the food and the festive vibe. For Hog Roast Plockton, it was an honour to help create what felt like the start of a new family tradition. Here’s to many more St Andrew’s Day celebrations with a twist!
