The weather here in Scotland has been a bit up and down lately. Some days, we’re blessed with radiant sunshine and cloudless skies, while other days, we’re finding ourselves wading through deep puddles and fighting through sheets of falling rain! Naturally, this erratic forecast has meant that Hog Roast Penicuik has had to be more prepared for any unexpected changes in the weather, so we’ve been making sure to pack our waterproofs and recommending our spacious gazebos to those hosting outdoor events.
Taking us up on the offer of a gazebo was bride and groom Charlotte and John, who tied the knot in a traditional Celtic wedding last Saturday afternoon, complete with a handfasting ritual and drinking whiskey from a quaich. Their blissful ceremony was followed by a lively, outdoor reception with over 150 wedding guests present.
Everyone was grateful that the weather didn’t take a turn that day, but the familiar bite in the autumn air meant that the guests were equally appreciative of the opportunity to take shelter beneath our marquee, which protected them from the chilly breeze. And keeping them warm from within was our signature slow-roasted pig, which our catering manager, Steve and the Hog Roast Penicuik team had spent all morning lovingly preparing.
Our trademark tender and juicy pulled pork was served on fresh-made gluten-free rolls with a range of toppings, including crispy crackling, sage and onion stuffing and applesauce. There were also grilled vegetable and halloumi skewers with sweet chilli sauce, flatbreads and tzatziki dip on offer for vegetarian and vegan guests, along with a selection of fresh and tasty salad options, gourmet coleslaw and warm new potatoes.
The mouth-watering feast was followed by a tea, coffee and hot chocolate service. This was served at the same time as the wedding cake, which Hog Roast Penicuik had sliced and dressed in fresh cream, summer berries and a sweet and tart coulis.
Charlotte, John and the rest of the wedding party were over the moon with Hog Roast Penicuik’s involvement in this event, and the happy couple has since been in touch to thank our team once again for a splendid day.
