Despite working in the surrounding area for over two decades, we had never been asked to provide a hog roast in New Alyth.
Over the years, we have been lucky enough to be involved in events held at the beautiful Lands of Loyal Hotel, and other venues in the original village of Alyth, and in nearbyJordanstone.
Last weekend, we finally got the chance to provide the food for an event in New Alyth.
It was the first time we had worked with this family, but our chef was pleased to see many faces he already knew amongst the guests. People he had previously cooked for at other local events. He knew, from experience, that his hard work was going to be appreciated, and that he had some big appetites to satisfy.
For this event, the chef provided a traditional hog roast. The meat was mainly served pulled, in baps with applesauce and stuffing. However, as requested, our chef also sliced parts of the hog to be served as part of a carvery, for which we also provided the vegetables, potatoes, gravy and sauces. This meant that those guests who did not fancy a hog roast roll were able to help themselves to the mix of foods they preferred.
The event was a long one, but as previously arranged, we stayed throughout to make sure that there was plenty of hot and cold food available for the guests as they came and went. At one point, a local rugby team arrived, famished after having played a game before arriving at the event for the celebrations. Everyone seemed to enjoy the food, and there was more than enough to go around.
Over the years, we have changed and updated our menus to reflect the changing tastes of modern consumers, but a traditional hog roast is still the most popular option.
We particularly enjoyed catering for this event, and hope that this will not be our last hog roast in New Alyth. Judging from the number of guests that asked for our number, we should be back working in the area soon.
