The average UK wedding takes somewhere between 12 and 18 months to plan properly – some take even longer. So when one local couple decided to pull their whole wedding together on a much tighter timeline, quite a few people around them raised an eyebrow. What nobody accounted for was their secret weapon: Hog Roast Dunbar.
We spent time getting to know exactly what the couple wanted from their day and between that and a proper understanding of their venue, we managed to put together a bespoke menu that suited both perfectly. They’d chosen the beautifully restored Tyninghame Village Hall, once an old village bakehouse as their backdrop, and wanted a menu that matched – so, something relaxed, unfussy and full of character. Honestly, it’s likeĀ this brief was made for us.

Hog Roast Dunbar spent the morning in the venue’s gardens getting everything ready, starting off with an antipasti grazing table loaded with rich Italian cheeses, cold cut meats, olives, artisan breads, oil and balsamic for dipping and fresh fruit for guests to pick through. Together with the refreshments supplied by The Little Margarita Truck, the charcuterie spread proved to be the perfect starting point and had everyone in a relaxed mood in the lead-up to the main course, which was served a couple of hours later.

By the time the hog roast was ready for serving, the anticipation among the guests had already reached a fever pitch. Wasting no time, they grabbed a plate and started piling soft rolls high with tender pulled pork, herby stuffing, applesauce and crackling. For those skipping the pork, or meat entirely, there were marinated chicken thighs, properly juicy and full of flavour, or grilled vegetable kebabs with optional halloumi, served with tzatziki and flatbreads. And alongside all of that sat generous bowls of tomato and mozzarella salad, mixed salad, coleslaw, a mix of sweet potato and classic fries, garlic and rosemary roasted new potatoes and plenty of fresh rolls and wraps for guests to build their plates however they liked.
By the time the day wound down, everyone was genuinely blown away by how smoothly it had all come together. Proof, if anyone still needed it, that you don’t need a year and a half to pull off a wedding people will remember – sometimes all it takes is good company and a Hog Roast Dunbar menu behind you.
