Nicknamed ‘the land of football’ or the ‘footballing nation’ due to the important role our country played in the early development of the game, Scotland’s history and lasting connection with this popular global sport runs deep. Many people consider football to be one of Scotland’s greatest cultural assets, and for many more, the game is closely linked to their sense of self.
So, despite not being in with a chance of winning the World Cup (again), Scotland’s youngsters aren’t giving up hope that the tides of fate will soon change! According to data, more children than ever before are taking part in the game, and Hog Roast Alexandria had the pleasure of meeting up with some of these footie-crazed kids last weekend!
Our team received a call from Ian a few weeks ago, who is the team captain for a local youth football club. With the boys needing new kits and equipment, Ian had come up with the idea of hosting a fundraising event to cover the cost of the supplies. The parents and kids all agreed that this was a brilliant idea and were all keen to take part.
Ian had encouraged the boys to get sign-ups from friends, family, neighbours and school peers ahead of the event by offering to complete tasks in exchange for donations. Some of the kids pledged to run for a set number of miles, while others promised to participate in leap-frog racing or perform football tricks. Everyone did something to bring in money for the team, and for the day of the event, Ian hired Hog Roast Alexandria to serve our Classic Hog Roast menu.
The client was delighted to see that his idea had drawn a lot of interest from locals, who came along to watch the lads play football and complete their pledges on Saturday afternoon. The tickets they purchased allowed them to enjoy our tasty rolls, which overflowed with tender pulled pork, crackling, stuffing and applesauce. We had also prepared grilled veggie skewers, which went down a treat with the non-meat-eaters.
Thanks to some generous donations, Ian was also able to put together an amazing raffle with lots of great prizes, which encouraged the guests to spend more money.
The efforts Ian and the young footballers went to certainly paid off as, by the end of the day, they had enough money to pay for everything they needed. The client was particularly pleased with Hog Roast Alexandria’s involvement, as our food kept everyone’s spirits up despite the cold weather.
