At Hog Roast Scotland, we’ve always been about two things: great food, and family. And recently, something really special happened that reminded us just how closely those two things are connected.
Steve, his wife Helen, and their son Ben stepped out together to cater an event, not just as a team, but as a family. What made it extra meaningful? It was their first event working side-by-side in over 10 years! A full decade had passed since the last time Steve and Helen ran a service together – before nappies, school runs, football practice, and the whirlwind that is raising a family.
Back then, before the kids came along, Steve and Helen were a regular double act; flipping pork baps at weddings, sorting sauces at birthdays, and keeping cool under the heat of festival madness. When their family started to grow, Helen took a step back to focus on the chaos of home life, while Steve kept the business rolling.
Fast forward to now, and with Ben showing a real interest in the family business and a keen eye for a well-cooked roast (what can we say, the boy’s a natural born spitmaster), it felt like the perfect moment to get the band back together. The trio joined forces for a weekend booking and rustled up a feast fit for kings.
But Hog Roast Scotland is bigger than just the three of them. It’s a true family operation. Steve’s parents, John and Anne, are still hands-on, and the rest of the crew includes their five sons – Ben, Adam, Jamie, Oliver, and Sam – as well as their daughter Lottie. When we say family-run, we don’t say it lightly.
And it’s not just hog roasts that run in this family. Hog Roast Scotland also run a farm alongside the catering business. Yes, that means all our meat and produce has that fresh, homegrown touch.
Watching Steve guide Ben through the carving while Helen kept the crowd happy behind the scenes was one of those moments that sticks with you.
And judging by how well it went, we’ve got a feeling this won’t be the last time the three of them serve side by side.
